** Full-time Postdoctoral Research Position in Speech Synthesis
(Saarbrücken, Germany) **

[Apologies for duplicate postings]

Saarland University’s Collaborative Research Center SFB-1102:
"Information Density and Linguistic Encoding" [1] is seeking to hire one
full-time postdoctoral researcher (100% TV-L 13). The role of the
postdoctoral researcher is to implement models of information density
using speech corpora, and integrate them into an existing TTS platform.
He or she will leverage and extend tools for rapid and incremental NLP
and voice component assembly and parameter optimization, and measure the
resulting TTS performance using both automatic techniques and evaluation
studies involving human listeners.

* Requirements: *
The candidate should hold a PhD in computer science, electrical
engineering, computational linguistics, or a related field, with a
strong background in speech and natural language processing. Experience
with speech technology applications, particularly TTS synthesis, is
mandatory.
Moreover, the candidate should have excellent software engineering
skills, including object-oriented programming, distributed version
control, unit testing, bug tracking, continuous integration, and build
automation. Previous involvement in collaborative development on an
open-source project is a plus. Good spoken and written command of
English is required.

The position is for 2 years (renewable for another 1.75 years), with a
preferred start date of October 2014. The position is open until filled,
but we will start to review applications by mid-July.

Please email applications in PDF format citing reference number W861 and
project C5 (including a CV, list of publications, two references, and a
statement of interest) directly to

...applications in PDF format ..
It's inappropriate for TAX-PAYER funded institutions to promote
[in this case: force the use of] proprietary products.
Learn to handle plain text.
=======

That festival:TTS lacks an up-front/immediately-accessible
speech output speed control, is an absurdity.

Also a <gap between words> control would be easy to add, and useful.

Avoid the mistake that the AI community made in the 60s-70s,
when the Expert-System approach, finally showed that many tasks
need the horse and rider approach.
I.e. effective coupling between the user and the system.
